Desk Setup Calculator
It's 4 pm. You've been leaning toward the screen for an hour without noticing. Here's the twist: many desks come in one standard height. People don't.
Type your height. You get a starting point for your chair, desk and screen, sitting and standing. Then adjust until it feels right for you.
Common guidance, not medical advice. These are rule-of-thumb proportions that give a starting point; bodies, chairs and desks differ. Adjust for comfort, and change position often. If something hurts, talk to a health professional.
How it works
The calculator uses common rule-of-thumb proportions of body height (approximate averages for adults), then rounds to a range:
- Chair seat: about a quarter of your height, so your feet rest flat and your knees are roughly level with your hips.
- Desk, sitting: about elbow height when you sit with relaxed shoulders, so your forearms rest roughly level.
- Desk, standing: about elbow height when you stand.
- Screen: the top of the screen at or a little below eye level, about an arm's length away.
